What is product management for SaaS?

The end-to-end process of designing, creating, and expanding software products provided to clients as a service over the Internet rather than as a one-time purchase is known as software as a service (SaaS) product management.
SaaS product managers collaborate closely with the engineering, design, marketing, and analytics teams to oversee a product across its full lifecycle. PDMs aren't in charge of coordinating ongoing product development tasks, in contrast to project managers. Instead, they concentrate on creating a strategic plan, articulating the value proposition, and keeping track of the product's health.

Product management in SaaS v/s non-SaaS :

The workloads and methods used by SaaS product managers differ significantly from those used by traditional software or hardware product managers in a number of important ways. The broader development scope is often a problem for the latter. When comparing a product like Fitbit to Strava, it is reasonable to conclude that Fitbit PDMs have a bit more work to do because they must offer users both a full-featured fitness app and stylish, highly-functional physical hardware.

Second, since continuous delivery is commonplace in the SaaS industry, product managers are more likely to use agile approaches (such as the Lean Startup model or Scrum). SaaS software is frequently updated as soon as a change occurs. Classic software upgrades, though, occur less frequently. The majority of the time, updates to major or minor versions include changes.

It takes time and effort to iterate on a hardware product as well. Because there are more variables to take into account, updates take significantly longer to roll out, and some issues are too complex to be resolved by a software patch.
